In response to the severe storm that struck the Charter Township of Kalamazoo on May 15, 2025, causing widespread tree damage, downed power lines, and blocked roadways, the Township Board swiftly and unanimously approved emergency funding for storm debris cleanup efforts. The decision reflects the Township’s commitment to service and its proactive approach to supporting the community in times of need. On June 2, 2025, curbside brush pickup will commence across affected areas.  Residents are asked to place manageable brush near the roadside.

LOCATION OCCURRED: E Main St near Fenimore Ave, Township of Kalamazoo

INCIDENT SUMMARY:  

On Saturday, April 13, 2024, around 2:30 pm, the Township of Kalamazoo Police Department responded to a panic alarm on a Kalamazoo Metro Bus. The bus was stopped on E. Main St. near Fenimore Ave when officers arrived. Witnesses on the bus reported that a woman was behaving unusually, then pulled out a knife and threatened another passenger.

Responding officers removed the woman from the bus and found her still in possession of the knife. The bus driver’s quick action to summon assistance resulted in no injuries during this incident.

The suspect, a 57-year-old woman from Kalamazoo, is currently lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail. Her name is being withheld until her arraignment.
