NEWS RELEASE

*Joint News Release with Kalamazoo Public Schools*

DATE REPORTED:  April 22nd, 2024       

LOCATION OCCURRED: 2432 N. Drake Rd. (Kalamazoo Central High School)

CASE NUMBER: 24-001381

INCIDENT SUMMARY:  On April 22nd, at approximately 2:00 p.m., officers with the Township of Kalamazoo Police Department responded to Kalamazoo Central High School to assist school staff for a report of a student who was believed to be in possession of a firearm. Upon further investigation, it was discovered the 16 year-old Kalamazoo Central student was in possession of a stolen firearm. The firearm was loaded when it was recovered, however there was no report of injuries to students or staff with the firearm.  

The individual was taken into custody and lodged at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home

This case will be forwarded to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Attorney’s Office for review of criminal charges for:

  • Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property, and Weapons Free School Zone Violation.
