NEWS RELEASE

DATE REPORTED:  December 1, 2022                

LOCATION OCCURRED: 1000 block of Mosel, Kalamazoo Township

INCIDENT SUMMARY:  The Township of Kalamazoo Police Department responded to a 911 call, where the victim reported he had been shot by a relative at a residence in the 1000 block of E. Mosel.  Township Officers responding to the scene located the victim and began first-aid prior to the arrival of emergency medical personnel.

Officers located the suspect a short distance away, and with the assistance of KDPS and KCSO, took the suspect into custody without incident.   

As this event developed, the Parchment Public Schools Innovation Center located nearby was briefly placed on lockdown as a precaution.  The Parchment Public Schools School Resource Officer was on location at the school and supervised the lockdown to ensure there was no danger to the students and staff.  

SUSPECT INFORMATION: The suspect is a 57-year-old Kalamazoo Township man.  He was arrested at the scene without incident and lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail.  A request for criminal charges will be submitted to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

VICTIM INFORMATION: The victim is a 25-year-old Kalamazoo Township man.  He was transported to a local hospital and is being treated for a gunshot wound.

AGENCIES ASSISTING: Kalamazoo Township Fire Department, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department and Life EMS.
