LOCATION OCCURRED: 200 block of Paisley Court, Kalamazoo Township
Neighbors reported a domestic situation where shots were fired in Cloisters Apartment complex on W. Main St. in Kalamazoo Township. Officers were able to quickly respond to the scene and assist residents in evacuating the area. Kalamazoo Metro SWAT members were able to evacuate two minors who remained in the residence. It appears the suspect in this incident shot the female adult victim, and then shot himself. The shooting victim was transported to a local hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
Detectives from Kalamazoo Township are currently investigating the incident and the case remains open. Kalamazoo Township Police were assisted at the scene by the Kalamazoo Township Fire Department, the Michigan State Police, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, Kalamazoo Metro SWAT, the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office, Kalamazoo Metro Transit, and Life EMS.

This is the fourth homicide in Kalamazoo Township in 2021. All have been the result of gun violence.
VICTIM: 52-year-old Marta Melero-Gomez of Kalamazoo succumbed to the gunshot wound she received from this incident and passed away at a local hospital last night.
There are two minor children, who were uninjured and rescued from the home. They have been temporarily placed with family.
SUSPECT: The suspect in this incident died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The suspect in this incident is identified as 54-year-old Eric Minines of Kalamazoo.
