NEWS RELEASE

INCIDENT COMPLAINT: 23-001610

INCIDENT TYPE: Felony assault

DATE OCCURRED: Tuesday May 16, 2023     TIME: 8:30 A.M.

LOCATION OCCURRED:  1521 Gull Rd., Township of Kalamazoo

INCIDENT SUMMARY:

The Township of Kalamazoo Police Department responded to a report of a man with a knife at Borgess Hospital.  While on scene Officers observed a suspect holding a knife and threatening Borgess Security personnel outside in the ambulance bay.

The investigation revealed the suspect, a 32 year old Kalamazoo resident, had come to the hospital upset about a prior visit.

Responding Officers were able to get the suspect to surrender, without incident, after approximately an hour of negotiations. The suspect was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail.  No one was injured in the incident.

The case will be reviewed by the Kalamazoo County Prosecuting Attorney.
