As you know, Thursday night’s storm caused significant tree damage and power outages throughout our community. We are working to assist you! Kalamazoo Township leadership is actively monitoring the situation and working with local partners to ensure that cleanup and power restoration efforts continue safely and efficiently.  Response coordination is in place now, and we are prepared to take further action to assist our community with cleanup efforts. Our Board is meeting this week to discuss authorizing additional support services.

>Contact your utility provider directly for power outage updates

>Check on neighbors, especially those who are elderly or medically vulnerable

 >Stay clear of any downed power lines and call 911 if you see a hazardous situation

DATE REPORTED: November 4, 2023

LOCATION OCCURRED: 1900 block of Colgrove Avenue, Kalamazoo Township

INCIDENT SUMMARY: The Township of Kalamazoo Police Department responded to a 911 call of shots fired inside of an apartment building. Officers arrived and located a 22-year-old male with a gunshot wound. Life saving measures were performed on scene prior to being transported to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. While investigating, officers learned of a 48-year-old female who arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound and is being treated for her non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation reveals this was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public. This case remains under investigation. Anyone with information should contact the Township of Kalamazoo Police Department at 269-488-8911 or Silent Observer at 269-343-2100.

VICTIM: The 48-year-old woman who was injured, was treated and released from a local hospital.

SUSPECT: The investigation determined the 22-year-old man from Kalamazoo was the person responsible for the shooting at the scene, and also took his own life prior to police arrival.
