In response to the severe storm that struck the Charter Township of Kalamazoo on May 15, 2025, causing widespread tree damage, downed power lines, and blocked roadways, the Township Board swiftly and unanimously approved emergency funding for storm debris cleanup efforts. The decision reflects the Township’s commitment to service and its proactive approach to supporting the community in times of need. On June 2, 2025 curbside brush pickup will commence across affected areas. Beginning immediately, tree removal services are being prioritized and evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Residents are asked to place manageable brush near the roadside. For larger trees or more complex needs, residents may submit a service request via the Township website at ktwp.org/contact-and-hours or by calling (269) 381-8080. NEWS RELEASE

LOCATION OCCURRED: 2432 N. Drake Rd., Township and County of Kalamazoo 

INCIDENT SUMMARY:

The Township of Kalamazoo Police Department responded to Kalamazoo Central High School on a false report of someone injured.  Officers responded out of an abundance of caution and the school was placed on soft lockdown. In conjunction with administration and campus safety, the Township of Kalamazoo Police Department quickly determined there was no active threat and no students were injured. 

The case is under investigation and those responsible for making false threats will be prosecuted.
