As you know, Thursday night’s storm caused significant tree damage and power outages throughout our community. We are working to assist you! Kalamazoo Township leadership is actively monitoring the situation and working with local partners to ensure that cleanup and power restoration efforts continue safely and efficiently.  Response coordination is in place now, and we are prepared to take further action to assist our community with cleanup efforts. Our Board is meeting this week to discuss authorizing additional support services.

>Contact your utility provider directly for power outage updates

>Check on neighbors, especially those who are elderly or medically vulnerable

LOCATION OCCURRED: 1900 block of Colgrove Avenue, Kalamazoo Township, Michigan

INCIDENT SUMMARY: On Wednesday, May 30th, 2024 at approximately 2:00pm, Township of Kalamazoo police officers responded to a report of gunshots in an apartment building. Officers arrived and located an apartment door that had been shot into. The occupant of the apartment was unharmed and witnesses observed a person running away from the building.

Throughout this past week, the public has worked with TKPD detectives to help identify a suspect in this matter. On June 7, 2024, with assistance from the Kalamazoo Metro SWAT team, TKPD detectives and patrol officers located and arrested CAMERON SHAUNDELL WILSON, an 18-year-old Kalamazoo resident. Wilson was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department without incident.

The Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office reviewed the investigation and authorized the following charges:

  • Weapons – Firearms – Discharge in or at a building: A felony offense for which the offender may receive up to 10 years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.
  • Weapons – Firearms – Possession by prohibited person: A felony offense for which the offender may receive up to 5 years in prison and/or a $5,000 fine.
  • Weapons – Ammunition – Possession by a prohibited person: A felony offense for which the offender may receive up to 5 years in prison and/or a $5,000 bond.
  • Weapons – Felony Firearm (2 counts): A felony offense for which the offender may receive up to 2 years in prison.

On June 7, 2024, Cameron Wilson was arraigned on these charges by the Honorable Judge Becket Jones of the 8th District Court, who gave Wilson a bond of $100,000 cash/surety.

The Township of Kalamazoo Police Department would like to thank the community for their efforts and tips which helped identify the suspect in this case.
